Rodney Brouard thinks it would cost the UK government “far too much” and they’d need “thousands of extra customs officers” – I think a few and the threats of serious fines for tax avoidance would do the job wouldn’t it? That would surely be paid for out of a tiny percentage of what the country would gain and is currently losing under this crazy scheme.

  2. I can’t believe I just saw that! Container loads of stuff being dropped in Guernsey to then be sent back by mail to avoid tax ? And HMRC are concerned about chasing pennies from people who have made errors in their tax returns ? The world’s gone mad!

    1. Not only that, the staff themselves actually get bonuses the more pennies they can collect and lose brownie points when returning to the office empty-handed!
